A stay at Mount Tutu Eco-Sanctuary is an Outdoor Education Experience, an immersion in the Natural Ecology and learning of the ongoing Bush and Bird Conservation programmes at the Sanctuary.  New Zealand is a safe environment - no wild animals, no snakes, no poisonous spiders, and here at the Sanctuary, because of our elevation at 365 m (1200 ft), seldom are there mosquitoes.

Experience the sound of awakening to bird song and the organic rainforest aromas' of mushroom and musk,

At Mount Tutu Eco-Sanctuary, which is a "Mainland Island" Sanctuary, there are Pukatea Trees over 500 years old.

At Mount Tutu Eco-Sanctuary, there are four spring fed brooks of very pure water that are the high source of the Mangarewarewa Stream that becomes the Waimapu Stream, which then feeds the Waimapu Estuary into the Tauranga Harbour.

Challenge your senses and explore the GLOW WORM GROTTO after nightfall.  A magnificent fairyland sight of starlight splendour.   By chance you may also hear the haunting sound of the native owl, the  Morpork (Ruru).

Be guided, or self explore the rainforest tracks, trailing through ancient native bush.   New Zealand is a safe country with no dangerous animals, no snakes, no tropical diseases.

Hand feed the animals and waterfowl.

Hear the morning chorus of native birdsong.

Stroll around the expansive gardens.

Enjoy the views as if you are soaring with the New Zealand Falcon,  or Harrier Hawk 365 m (1200 ft) up.

Vision

Vision for Mount Tutu Eco-Sanctuary Trust

Here at Mount Tutu Eco-Sanctuary, we have strong ecological and environmental principles.  Our vision is to enhance the environment values through preservation and education.  Our objective at Mount Tutu Eco-Sanctuary is to predator fence this 16 acre Bird and Rainforest Sanctuary with a 2.1 metre high fine mesh structure to provide a secure environment so that kiwi birds can be re-introduced to this paradise as they used to be 35 years ago.
